Helping Children Succeed

mainIn 1996, a group of San Carlos citizens started the Healthy Cities Tutoring Program to give our children and families a stronger sense of community through education.Today, Healthy Cities has blossomed into a tutoring program where over 190 volunteers share their time and expertise with about 200 elementary and middle school students each year, making a real difference in the child’s academic progress.

    Tutor Share Session A Success!

On March 1, Lynn Dames, a wonderful 3rd grade teacher at Heather, facilitated a tutor share session for Healthy Cities volunteers. It was a great opportunity to share experiences in a smaller setting and ask questions specific to the individual tutor-student match. Lynn Dames had great insights and advise and pampered us all with goodies to use in the sessions with the students. It provided the people who attended with some more background how children learn, what not to worry about as a tutor and a wealth of good ideas to try in their tutoring session. We are planning to have more of these tutor share sessions and we hope you will be able to attend because it is a nice way to connect with some fellow tutors and it is inspirational!

    Fundraising in progress

As Healthy Cities is now a non-profit organization, we rely heavily on donations from people who believe in the mission of helping struggling students by matching them with a tutor. You might have received a letter from us in December and we will be following up soon to ask you to please consider donating any amount you are comfortable with. The students in the San Carlos School District will be helped by it!
